Alchemy creates nonmagical elixirs, poisons, oils, and solvents, and governs mixing ingested substances and handling certain contact and gas substances.

Requirements

Prerequisite: Herbal Lore.

Effects

Creation: Each purchase gives one Production Level. Select eligible alchemical substances and pay their Production Level costs under the Adventuring Gear production rules.

Mixing into Food or Drink: One level of Alchemy is required to mix an ingested substance into food or drink. A character does not need Alchemy simply to consume an unmixed ingested substance directly from its container.

Handling Contact and Gas Substances: To use a gas substance or apply a contact substance other than Vorpal Coating, the character must have purchased at least as many Alchemy levels as that substance's Production Level value. Gas packets must be orange; spell packets cannot be orange.

Detection Limit: Alchemy cannot determine whether an alchemical substance or magical potion is present in a creature's bloodstream. Herbal Lore supplies the separate identification ability for alchemical substances.

Production Rules

Daily Output: Each purchased level supplies one Base Production Level per Game Day. Item costs are paid from the relevant production pool; an item's level cost is separate from the Build Points used to buy the skill.

Additional Output: At ten or more levels in this production skill, Trade Mastery adds one Master Production Level per purchased level. Access to the appropriate chapter's workshop adds one Workshop Production Level per purchased level. Refined materials add up to the Base Production Level again, at one silver per extra level; approved Production Components count as one silver each toward the same combined limit. These bonuses do not increase the base pool.

Special Abilities and Resets: Production special abilities use only unused Base Production Levels. Base levels spent on an ability cannot also create items, but bonus output is unaffected. The normal standard reset is at 6:00 PM the following day; on adventure days, a reset occurs before each module or adventure. Production does not refresh at a chapter's optional 6:00 AM limited reset.

Item Tags: Production items remain valid for 24 months from creation, as recorded on their tags. Renew an expired item through the appropriate production skill and a new tag.
