Critical Slay / Parry

From NERO Wiki

Critical Slay / Parry provides a choice between a powerful weapon attack and a defense against a physical attack.

Requirements

  • Prerequisite: Two Weapon Proficiencies or Master Proficiencies per purchase.
  • Weapon and Hand: The Skill follows the designated weapon and hand restrictions of Critical Attack and Weapon Proficiency.
  • Uses per Day: One use for each purchase, spent as either a Critical Slay or a Parry.

Critical Slay

A Critical Slay deals 100 damage. Its call is "100 (Weapon Type) (Damage Type) Slay", with the appropriate types supplied. It deals full damage against creatures with damage thresholds or damage caps.

Before using a Slay, announce "Prepare to die!" This is an out-of-game statement and may be spoken while silenced. The use is spent when that announcement is made. The Slay remains active until the blow lands or five minutes pass, whichever happens first.

The active duration is not interrupted or shortened by disarm, weapon destruction, using a defense, being killed and revived, or becoming unconscious. When engaging a new opponent with an active Slay, announce "Active Slay"; that announcement is also out of game and allowed while silenced.

A landed Slay may be negated by a valid defense, such as Phase, Dodge, Parry, or Magic Armor. A target that survives the hit must acknowledge it with "Hit" or suitable roleplay so the attacker knows to resume normal damage calls.

Blade Fury

Every fourth Critical Slay performed deals 200 damage instead of 100. This value cannot be increased by any means.

Parry

Calling "Parry" spends a use to negate one qualifying physical attack delivered by a weapon or packet. It applies to boffer weapon attacks, arrows, and attacks with "Physical" in their incantation. It may stop weapon traps, but not explosive traps or Spellstrike.

The character must have a free weapon in hand. A two-handed weapon must be held with both hands. A Parry may protect another character if the defender can touch the intended target with their weapon; call "Parry for (Name)".

A character with multiple purchases may spend a Parry while keeping an already active Slay, without spending that Slay.

Master Critical Slay / Master Parry removes the single weapon-type restriction.
